Welcome to 3JJ!
I am Miss Jackson, the Year 3 class teacher. Mrs Kathrada will support me from Monday to Wednesday, and Mr Gonthier – our phase lead and Deputy Head Teacher – will also offer support throughout the year.
We are excited to teach your children in the upcoming academic terms and aim to make learning engaging and interesting for everyone. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to your children’s learning; we truly appreciate it.

Dear Parents, Carers and Families,
I would like to wish you all a happy new year and a big welcome back to school for 2025! We are now one-third of the way through the year, and it has been great to see just how much the children have grown and developed so far. I am excited to see them progress even more over the next two terms!
In this Spring term, we will be doing a lot of work about Ancient Greece, particularly in our English, Geography, and History lessons.
In English, we will do lots of work around Greek Myths, writing fiction and non-fiction pieces, including mythical stories and biographies. Geography lessons will focus on European Geography, particularly looking at the Mediterranean. In History, we’ll learn about how the Ancient Greeks lived, the gods and goddesses, mythical stories, and lots more! We have many fun activities planned to link to our Ancient Greece topic, including an Art Gallery trip (hopefully) in March or April.
In maths, we will continue to learn about multiplication and division, now looking at formal methods to multiply and divide larger numbers and doing some work on fractions and measurement later in the term. I strongly encourage the children to regularly log onto their TTRockstars accounts to practise their times tables, which will help them in their lessons. In Year 3, children need to be able to recall their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables, so the more they practise these, the better! I will provide them with their login details.
Our PE lessons will take place on both Monday afternoon (outdoor) and Thursday morning (indoor). I ask that children bring their PE kits with them on Monday but come to school wearing their PE kit on Thursday. On Thursday, they will need to bring their school uniform with them, as they will need to get changed back into it after PE. A reminder that PE kit should consist of a plain white t-shirt, plain black/ dark-coloured shorts or tracksuit bottoms and trainers. We politely ask for no jewellery or bright-coloured/patterned sports clothing.
As we mentioned in Autumn, reading with your child for 5-10 minutes each night can help improve their reading skills. Please remind your children to bring their reading book (with reading record) into school once they have finished with it and pop it into the book box in the classroom. This will ensure that their reading books are changed each week. New reading books will be given out when books have been returned, and homework will be given out every Friday.
The children working in Miss Jackson’Jackson’sg group will be given a spelling list to practise at home for a weekly test.
A final reminder that all class news and notices will be posted on Class Dojo. If you ever have any questions or queries about anything going on in school, feel free to message me, and I will aim to get back to you as soon as reasonably possible.
